An hour north of Atlanta and 40 minutes southwest of Blue Ridge is Jasper, Georgia. A small town for most of its history, Jasper is quickly becoming one of the largest cities in the North Georgia Mountains, thanks to Atlanta’s continued growth. Now the city is home to about 3,819 people.

Like Blairsville, Jasper was named for a Revolutionary War hero, Sergeant William Jasper. Jasper is conveniently located to several outdoor activities. A 16-mile drive east brings you to Mount Oglethorpe, which marked the southern end of the Appalachian Trail until 1958, when development in the area forced the end northeast to Springer Mountain. Mount Oglethorpe is the southernmost peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and features several hiking trails and observation decks. Jasper is known for its marble quarry industry, and is the Marble Capital of Georgia. The Georgia Marble Company began operating in Pickens County, where Jasper is located, in 1884 and is still in operation today. Pickens County marble was used to create the statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial, as well as several military headstones.

But marble isn’t all Jasper is known for. It’s also home to 79% of Jasper residents are homeowners. Homes in Jasper are competitively priced, with a median listing price of $219,000.* However, this number reflects a sharp increase of $47,500 in listing price since April 2017. Homes in Jasper usually sell at about $136 per square foot, which falls almost exactly along the national average price per square foot of $139.

Jasper is in the Pickens County School District, which includes Jasper Elementary School, Tate Elementary School, Hill City Elementary School, Harmony Elementary School, Jasper Middle School, Pickens County Middle School, and Pickens High School. Pickens High serves 1,285 students and is unranked in the state of Georgia with a graduation rate of 91%.
